Kumquat

With the album Kumquat, bassist and composer Jorgen Fleskens introduces his versatile talent. Electro jazz, elaborate melody lines and idiosyncrasy determine the atmosphere. The album contains ten pieces that are challenging and accessible. Fleskens draws his inspiration from the daily life of our society; volatility and an overload of stimuli are themes of the moment. The way in which this theme is incorporated in his compositions results in jazz with cinematic, organic and industrial characteristics. It is the music that tells the story, inspires and stimulates the listener’s imagination, avoiding clichés as much as possible. For this album, Fleskens has gathered musicians around him with a considerable track record and international stage experience. Examples for him include Weather Report and Herbie Hancock. After his conservatory studies, Fleskens took private lessons with Gary Willis in Barcelona. There, in addition to craftsmanship, he mainly learned to be critical of yourself at all times. This is certainly true in the process of composing where much is written and only a fraction is used.

In short, Kumquat stands for fresh and well thought-out.

The composition is called ‘Everything Interlude’

Met het album Kumquat introduceert bassist en componist Jorgen Fleskens zijn veelzijdige talent. Electro jazz, uitgewerkte melodielijnen en eigenzinnigheid bepalen de sfeer. Het album bevat tien stukken die uitdagend en toegankelijk zijn.

Fleskens haalt zijn inspiratie uit het dagelijkse leven van onze maatschappij; vluchtigheid en een overdaad aan prikkels zijn thema’s van dit moment. De manier waarop deze thematiek verwerkt is in zijn composities, resulteert in jazz met filmische, organische en industriële kenschetsen. Het is de muziek die het verhaal vertelt, inspireert en de verbeelding van de luisteraar stimuleert waarbij cliche’s zoveel mogelijk vermeden worden. Voor dit album heeft Fleskens musici om zich heen vergaard met een behoorlijke staat van dienst en internationale podium ervaring. Voorbeelden voor hem zijn o.a. Weather Report en Herbie Hancock. Fleskens heeft na zijn conservatorium studie prive-les gevolgd bij Gary Willis in Barcelona. Daar heeft hij naast vakmanschap vooral geleerd om steeds kritisch op jezelf te zijn. Dit geldt zeker in het proces van componeren waar veel geschreven en slechts een fractie gebruikt wordt.

Kortom Kumquat staat voor fris en doordacht.
